Workshops for schools: Fun lessons on brain health

Sep 8, 2025

At Headway Thames Valley we know how important it is to look after the brain, that’s why we offer workshops for schools on how the brain works. The sessions are suitable for children in both primary and secondary schools and we cover South Oxfordshire and Berkshire.

The sessions are free, interactive and designed to make learning about brain health fun. Our workshops cover how the brain works, what it controls and what are some good ways to keep the brain healthy, such as good sleep and exercise. They can also be tailored to your school’s needs, whether that’s during an assembly or a PSHE lesson, for example.

The benefits of workshops for schools

Children are already taught the basics of physical health — eating well, getting enough sleep, staying active — but the brain often gets left out of the conversation. By learning about brain health early on, they can build positive habits that support their wellbeing for life.

We also know that many young people are curious about how the brain works. These workshops give them a chance to ask questions, explore fun activities, and discover how simple choices can make a big difference.

The workshop is designed to fit into the school day without adding extra workload. It complements existing lessons on health and wellbeing and can start meaningful conversations in the classroom and at home.

What the session includes

The sessions are fun, interactive and age-appropriate, designed to keep children engaged while teaching them important lessons. Topics include:

  • How does our brain work?
  • What is it used for?
  • How can our brain get hurt?
  • How to protect our brain?

Each workshop gives students practical tips they can take into their daily lives, helping them notice how their choices affect their mood, focus and energy.
