What is Facebook?

Facebook is a free form of communication using the internet. Users can create a personal profile and join networks (such as Headway Thames Valley) to connect and interact with other people. People can also add friends and send them messages, and update their personal profile to notify friends about themselves.

 GUIDELINES

A word of caution!

Whilst Facebook can be a fun and useful way to interact with other people you also need to be careful with how you use it. Here are Headway’s guidelines for staying safe on Facebook:

  1. Be  wary about the personal information you share on Facebook. Such as your address, telephone number, date of birth, marital status, news on personal compensation awards, details of holidays you are going on, etc.

  1. Do not accept friendship requests from someone you do not know or do not feel comfortable being friends with. If someone is sending you any inappropriate or abusive messages you are able to remove them as a friend.

  1. It‘s a good idea to change your privacy settings on Facebook to make sure you are not sharing all your information with everyone. To do this click on the cog symbol on the right hand side of the blue menu bar on your own facebook page – select’privacy settings’. Here you can change who can see what you write and who can find you on Facebook.

As a safety measure the Headway Thames Valley Facebook page will be regularly monitored by our staff. Anything that is posted on the page that is abusive, offensive, inappropriate or may damage the reputation and good standing of Headway will be removed immediately and the offending party will be barred.

PLEASE NOTE THAT HEADWAY THAMES VALLEY STAFF, VOLUNTEERS AND THERAPISTS CANNOT ACCEPT FACEBOOK FRIEND REQUESTS
