Reading Half Marathon

Nov 6, 2013

We already have over 20 runners signed up for the Reading Half Marathon next year. These include at least one Headway Thames Valley employee (guess who?) and members of a local football team so – what are you waiting for…?

Headway Thames Valley volunteer Tom Satterthwaite has been helping with organising runners and below is his latest post:

If you have any queries on how to get started, signed up etc please email Tom on tom.satterthwaite@gmail.com

Firstly a quick note on the fundraising websites – if you have not yet set up your fundraising page, I would recommend using Virgin Giving site (virginmoneygiving.com) as this is one of the sites that does not take any commission from the donations. Also when setting up your page please make sure that you select Headway Thames Valley (charity number 900591). This is important to select the local branch rather than the Headway UK national charity, so that the donations go to the Thames Valley centre. If unsure please contact the page administrators to check you have the right one.

In terms of training I would again recommend the weekly running clubs that take place at Reading Sweatshop on Monday and Tuesday nights 6.30pm. They do a mixture of training sessions and longer runs, and there is a full range of running abilities. It is good running with a group, especially during the winter!

I am in the process of getting the running t-shirts sourced. I am looking for a company to sponsor the shirts themselves, so if you know of someone who might be willing to consider this please let me know.

Finally also please get in touch if you would be interested in getting involved in any promotion in the media – typically local newspapers and radio stations will do publicity pieces closer to the time.

Best of luck with the sponsorship and training!

Tom
